Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around an issue with an HP Pavilion a6528p desktop not recognizing the CD/DVD drive properly. Participants explore potential causes and solutions related to hardware recognition, driver issues, and the functionality of the autorun feature.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • The original poster describes that inserting a CD or DVD does not trigger autoplay and results in an "Application not found" error when accessing the drive.
  • One participant suggests right-clicking the drive and selecting "Explore" to check for files.
  • The original poster reports that files appeared after clicking "Explore," but questions whether reinstalling the driver would resolve the issue of not being able to double-click on the drive.
  • Another participant argues that the issue is unlikely related to a driver problem, noting that the operating system is communicating with the hardware, and suggests checking for an "autorun.inf" file on the DVD.
  • The original poster mentions that the drive previously did not show any files, raising questions about the inconsistency of the drive's behavior.
  • A participant expresses uncertainty about the previous state of the drive and does not provide an explanation for the change in behavior.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the cause of the issue, with differing views on whether it is related to driver problems or the autorun functionality of the discs.

Contextual Notes

There are unresolved questions regarding the intermittent behavior of the CD/DVD drive and the specific conditions under which files are or are not displayed.

I have an HP Pavilion a6528p desktop. Whenever I insert a cd or dvd autoplay doesn't start. Then when I click on my computer I shows that there is a disk with data on it, but when I click on it, it says:
"E:/

Application not found"

it used to try to burn a disk even if it had information on it, but now it doesn't even find the disk drive, other than installing a driver what else can I do?

Right click on the drive and hit "Explore." Let us know if any files show up.

I clicked Explore and files for the dvd I have in it came up. Usually nothing comes up though. If I reinstall the driver will it fix the problem of not being able to double click on the drive?

It doesn't sound like you have anything remotely related to a driver problem. Drivers allow your operating system to communicate with your hardware, and that's clearly happening just fine.

Does the DVD have a file called "autorun.inf" on it? You might have to change your settings to show hidden files, as this file is normally hidden.

I suspect that your computer is working correctly, and you're simply trying to use the autorun function on a disc with no autorun information.

Just a couple of days ago it wouldn't show me any files even when I clicked explore. I don't know why it all of a sudden started showing me files.

Well, I certainly can't tell you what happened a couple of days ago.

I'm not asking you to
