Just a question that randomly occurred to me, why is it or is it not possible? What is necessary to make warp drives possible?
Solistics said:no, wormholes could possible send you to a different time (say past or the future) warp drive will keep you in the same time.
A warp drive is a theoretical propulsion system that would allow a spacecraft to travel faster than the speed of light. It is based on the concept of warping space-time, which would shorten the distance between two points and enable faster travel.
According to our current understanding of physics, a warp drive is not possible. However, some scientists are exploring ways to potentially make it a reality by manipulating space-time using exotic matter or energy sources.
A warp drive would work by creating a bubble or warp in space-time around the spaceship. This would allow the ship to travel through space by contracting the space in front of it and expanding the space behind it, effectively propelling it forward at speeds faster than light.
The exact materials needed for a warp drive are still unknown as the technology is purely theoretical at this point. However, some scientists speculate that exotic matter or energy sources, such as negative energy or dark matter, may be required to create the necessary warp in space-time.
It is difficult to predict when we might have a functioning warp drive, as it would require a significant breakthrough in our understanding of physics. Some scientists believe it could be achieved within the next century, while others think it may never be possible.
