What is Motor: Definition and 1000 Discussions

An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy. Heat engines convert heat into work via various thermodynamic processes. The internal combustion engine is perhaps the most common example of a heat engine, in which heat from the combustion of a fuel causes rapid pressurisation of the gaseous combustion products in the combustion chamber, causing them to expand and drive a piston, which turns a crankshaft. Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion, pneumatic motors use compressed air, and clockwork motors in wind-up toys use elastic energy. In biological systems, molecular motors, like myosins in muscles, use chemical energy to create forces and ultimately motion.

Increasing the output torque of a DC motor with gears

Hello everyone, I see videos showing the output torque can be increased by using gears and this is usually demonstrated with DC motors (simple DC motors can be removed from toys). I understand the general logic: * The DC rotates in a high speed. * The gear system reduces the output speed. * If...

Motor / transformer variable frequency control

few questions 1) is it true that for a 50 or 60hz induction motor maximum torque is achieved from 0hz up to design hz and if an VFD is used and frequency is increased above 50 or 60hz like 100hz the rpm will increase but the available torque will decrease? Is the reason behind this the fact...

Homopolar Motor: Energy Input, Output, & Magnetic Field
