I remeber reading somewhere that it is possible to get your application fee waved for graduate school. What is necessary for me to do this? Do I just have to tell the dept that I can't afford the fee. A friend of mine gets financial aid, so he said he doesn't have to pay the fee. Anyone know anything I can do?

Fee waivers feel like a dime a dozen (ok that's a weird way of saying it) so you might as well just ask the graduate studies department :)

Hello,

Thank you for your question. It is indeed possible to get an application fee waiver for graduate school. However, the process and requirements for obtaining a waiver may vary depending on the specific institution and program you are applying to. Generally, there are a few ways to request a waiver:

1. Demonstrate financial need: If you are unable to afford the application fee, you can provide documentation such as tax returns, pay stubs, or a letter from a financial aid officer to show your financial need. This information will be reviewed by the admissions committee to determine if you qualify for a waiver.

2. Be a member of a specific group: Some institutions offer fee waivers for members of specific groups, such as low-income students, first-generation college students, or military veterans. If you fall into one of these categories, you may be eligible for a waiver.

3. Attend a graduate school fair: Many graduate schools attend college fairs and offer fee waivers to students who visit their table. If you attend a fair, be sure to inquire about fee waivers and see if you can obtain one.

4. Contact the admissions office directly: If you are unsure about your eligibility for a fee waiver or have unique circumstances, it is best to contact the admissions office directly. They will be able to provide you with specific information and instructions on how to request a waiver.

It is important to note that not all graduate schools offer fee waivers, and some may have limited funds for them. Therefore, it is best to research the specific institution's policies and requirements for fee waivers before applying.

I hope this information helps. Best of luck with your graduate school applications.
