Informative paper on Flu Vaccines

In summary, flu vaccines are injections that contain small amounts of inactive or weakened flu virus strains. They work by stimulating the body's immune system to produce antibodies that protect against the flu virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every year, especially those at high risk for complications. The flu virus changes each year, which is why it is necessary to get a new vaccine annually. Flu vaccines are considered safe and cannot give you the flu, as they only contain inactive or weakened viruses. Any flu-like symptoms after getting the vaccine are a result of the body building immunity.

Thanks for finding and sharing this @Evo. I knew about some of this but the paper clarifies a lot of the details.

Also, I didn't realize that the WHO had input into the process and that's reason enough to continue funding the organization.

What are flu vaccines?

Flu vaccines are a type of vaccine that helps protect against the influenza virus. They contain small amounts of weakened or dead viruses that stimulate the body's immune system to produce antibodies, which then protect against future infections.

How do flu vaccines work?

Flu vaccines work by exposing the body to a small amount of the influenza virus. This triggers the immune system to produce antibodies that can recognize and fight off the virus if it enters the body again. This helps prevent or lessen the severity of the flu.

Are flu vaccines safe?

Yes, flu vaccines are considered safe by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They undergo rigorous testing and monitoring before being approved for use. However, like any medication, there may be some mild side effects such as soreness at the injection site or a low-grade fever.

Who should get a flu vaccine?

The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every year. This is especially important for those who are at high risk for complications from the flu, such as young children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with certain medical conditions.

When should I get a flu vaccine?

The best time to get a flu vaccine is before flu season begins, which is typically in the fall. However, it's never too late to get vaccinated, as the flu season can last until May. It takes about two weeks for the vaccine to provide full protection, so it's important to get vaccinated early in the season.
