Pressure Difference: Is the Solution Wrong?

In summary, the conversation is about a possible error in the solution for a problem involving Bernoulli's equation. The author believes that the equation should be (PA-PB) / ρg = hf + ZA - ZB instead of (PA-PB) / ρg = hf + ZB - ZA. They also discuss the possibility of water flowing from B to A due to the negative value of 18.27 - 40. The conversation concludes with a suggestion to check the Reynolds number for laminar flow.

Homework Statement

is the solution given wrong ? from the bernoulli's equation , (PA-PB) / ρg = hf + ZB - ZA , am i right ? P/s : the Velocity at A and B are the same , so they cancel each other ... but in the solution , the author gave (PA-PB) / ρg = hf + ZA - ZB which is 18.27 +40 , IMO , it should be 18.27-40 , am i right ?

since 18.27 - 40 has negative value , so the water should flow from B to A ?

They probably meant to say that B is higher than A.

By the way, did you check the Reynolds number to see if the flow really would be laminar?

1. What is pressure difference?

Pressure difference is the difference in pressure between two points in a fluid or gas. It is measured in units of force per unit area, such as pounds per square inch (psi) or pascals (Pa).

2. How is pressure difference calculated?

Pressure difference is calculated by subtracting the pressure at one point from the pressure at another point. The resulting value is the pressure difference between the two points.

3. Why is pressure difference important?

Pressure difference is important in many scientific and engineering applications. It helps us understand fluid and gas behavior, and can be used to predict flow rates, forces, and other important parameters.

4. What factors affect pressure difference?

There are several factors that can affect pressure difference, including the properties of the fluid or gas (such as density and viscosity), the size and shape of the container or pipe, and the flow rate or velocity of the fluid or gas.

5. How can pressure difference be measured?

Pressure difference can be measured using various instruments, such as manometers, pressure gauges, and pressure transducers. These instruments can provide accurate and precise measurements of pressure difference in different types of systems.
