Structural Engineering/Construction Management Double Major?

In summary, it is practical to double major in Structural engineering and Construction Management, as it provides a good understanding of both the engineering aspects and the implementation of construction. This is important for those looking to advance in a Construction Management role. However, it may require a lot of work and additional courses in areas such as business and finance to manage the workload effectively.

So I am currently starting my second year of college and after assessing my interests and abilities I have decided that construction is something that I have a background in and would really enjoy doing, as I am very hands on while also having a curiosity in engineering. Is it practical to double major in Structural engineering and construction management? While I can see the advantages of knowing both the engineering aspects as well as the implementation of construction, I am unsure as how this would work in the field. Any civil engineers have any insight?

From my experience, it is very practical to double major in Structural engineering and Construction Management. Having a good understanding of both the engineering aspects and the construction implementation is very important in the field, especially if you are looking to move up the ranks in a Construction Management role. Knowing the fundamentals of Structural Engineering would help you understand the technical side of things and the Construction Management side would give you the skills to manage projects, contracts, financials, and other elements of the job. Having said that, it would be a lot of work and may be hard to manage your studies and workload if you decide to pursue both degrees. You might also want to consider taking additional courses in areas such as business, accounting, and finance to supplement your knowledge. Hope this helps!
