Do concentric coils steal power from one another?
The amount of power generated by a coil in a changing magnetic field is determined by the area perpendicular to the field, the field strength, and how quickly those values change over time, and is multiplied by the number of loops in the coil. But that made me wonder what would happen if one...- AamsterC2

Maintain a constant velocity for a rotating wheel
I want to make a small mechanical calculator with no electric parts, nothing too advanced but a few binary gates capable of some basic functions. All the examples I were able to find were amazing but were still dependent on electricity to drive the mechanism. One possibility is a spring but I...- AamsterC2

High School How does LIGO measure gravitational waves
I'm aware that the LIGO system uses interferometry but I'm confused how it works in this case. Do they test both beams of light? Or do they use one beam to test the wavelength of the other and see the difference? Also it is sensitive up to 10 e-18 meters, is that for the change in wavelength or...- AamsterC2

Undergrad Does slowing light with a BEC change any of its properties?
Ok, it worked this time (not sure why it didn't at first). That article is absolutely amazing, I mean my mind is being blown right now whoa. And although the topic was slightly different I'm guessing from that the wavelength and frequency of the light when it comes out is the same as when it...- AamsterC2

That just gives me a runtime error both on internet explorer and google chrome. Is the link correct?- AamsterC2

Undergrad Does slowing light with a BEC change any of its properties?
So I understand that scientists have been able to slow light to extremely low speeds using Bose-Einstein Condensates and even without them (https://physics.aps.org/story/v3/st37) and if I understand this correctly they slow light the same way water or air does; atoms absorb the photons and...- AamsterC2

Nitinol Engine Design: Exploring Efficiency and Power Harnessing Techniques
So I'm starting to do some tests with nitinol (order about 5 feet of wire just to do some basic tests and get a feel for the material before I go any further). I've seen a few variations on different types of motors that are powered by nitinol and am wondering if they all have the same...- AamsterC2

Which is better for structural support PVC pipe or plywood?
Ok hmm I suppose I could try making support for the ends that could be placed after the wings- AamsterC2

Which is better for structural support PVC pipe or plywood?
Just a weight placed right in the middle like if there's a tube, a box beam and a hollow triangular structure each a meter long with the same wall thickness, held at either end and each with a force pressing down on the center. Which could withstand the most force? Edit: And so sorry, I can't...- AamsterC2

Which is better for structural support PVC pipe or plywood?
Oh wait OK let me totally rephrase this. Under a bending stress which can sustain more stress an equilateral triangle, a square, or a circle assuming the height of the triangle, side length of the square and the diameter of the circle are all the same value. I think this is what I should have...- AamsterC2
