Linear Fractional Transformation - find the formula
Choosing a or c to be 1 (or any number) seems to be an invalid assumption since even this is a ratio of a sum not just of a number over a number (choosing c=1 affects d, and choosing a=1 affects b), but please explain if I am incorrect. I chose c to be 1, then since I had everything else worked...- anniecvc

Linear Fractional Transformation - find the formula
http://math.sfsu.edu/federico/Clase/Math350.S15/linea.JPG 1. Homework Statement The picture below represents the map from a "green projective line" to a "red projective line." It takes the "green points" 1,3,7,-11 to the "red points" 0,6,10,20, respectively as shown by the ruler. Let f be the...- anniecvc

Projective geometry question: 4 points no 3 on a line
Homework Statement a) Suppose that A,B,C,D are four "points" in a projective plane, no three of which are on a "line." Consider the "lines" AB, BC, CD, DA. Show that if AB and BC have a common point E, then E = B. b) From a) deduce that the three lines AB, BC, CD have no common point , and the...- anniecvc

Proving convergence given inequalities of powers
Homework Statement Show that if a>-1 and b>a+1 then the following integral is convergent: ∫(x^a)/(1+x^b) from 0 to ∞ The Attempt at a Solution x^-1 < x^a < x^a+1 < x^b x^-1/(1+x^b) < x^a/(1+x^b) < x^a+1/(1+x^b) < x^b/(1+x^b) I also know any integral of the form ∫1/x^p...- anniecvc

My reasoning: the inverse secx not the reciprocal of inverse cosx?
Hm interesting, I worked it out and it does seem to be the case. So in the future, I now know what to input into my calculator if I wanted to find an arcsecx. Thank You!- anniecvc

My reasoning: the inverse secx not the reciprocal of inverse cosx?
Question: Let x=sint => arcsinx = t sin2t + cos2t = 1 cos2t = 1 - sin2t cos2t = 1 - x2 cost = + (1-x2)1/2 cos(arcsinx) = (1-x)1/2 But why is it necessarily the positive root of cos2t that we take? I don't believe the "lengths of a side of a right triangle" argument suffices...- anniecvc

My reasoning: the inverse secx not the reciprocal of inverse cosx?
This came up when I was trying to evaluate to a decimal value an arcsec(something), but on TI-83 there is no inverse secant button. So, I punched 1/(arccos(something)). Naturally, this came up as a domain error. Then my instructor pointed out arcsesc is not 1/arccosx. Oops. Thinking about...- anniecvc

Is Moon the Best Low-Budget Sci-Fi Movie of Recent Years?
I'm sorry, I disagree. It's not terrible, but I found it to be boring and much less psychologically thrilling than I had hoped. I would recommend "Europa Report" which is another low-budget film (it's idependent) about a crew that goes to Europa to probe the icy waters and report back. It's...- anniecvc

Double integral over triangular region
Yes, the exact answer is 524288/15 ~ 35000. This was a terrible problem not because it was difficult but because the numbers were so ugly.- anniecvc

Double integral over triangular region
Homework Statement Integrate f(u,v)= v - sqrt(u) over the triangular region cut from the first quadrant by the line u+v=64 in the uv plane. Homework Equations I am assuming u is the equivalent of the x-axis in the xy plane and v the equivalent of y in the xy plane. I am taking the...- anniecvc

Basic conceptual question about angle between two vectors
I know to find the angle between two vectors you would take the arccosine of the dot product of the two vectors divided by the magnitude of both vectors multiplied. I know the angle between two vectors is always less than or equal to 180 degrees. The angle can only be found when both vectors...- anniecvc

Cubic polynomial unable to be factored nicely
