Question about double shear pin connections
Sure. Pin A is the one I'm talking about. For some reason the solutions manual uses the magnitude of the vertical and horizontal reaction but I can't see why since that would not be along the surface of the shear plane that I'm looking at.- Bill Nye Tho

Question about double shear pin connections
Homework Statement Double Shear Pin Connection Homework Equations ∑Fx = -2V + P = 0 The Attempt at a Solution When calculating the shear force along the planes of the pin, where I have a reaction at Ax and Ay, why do I have to use the magnitude of the reaction force as opposed to...- Bill Nye Tho

External moments when assembling internal force functions
This is where my confusion lies. I include this couple in calculation only at x=0? That I can accept but then at 6m I have to also include it to get a bending moment of 0.- Bill Nye Tho

External moments when assembling internal force functions
Thanks SteamKing. When I include the couple at x = 0 m, it checks out but at x = 6 m i still get -18.- Bill Nye Tho

External moments when assembling internal force functions
Homework Statement I have a 6 meter long beam that is supported by a roller at 0m and a pin at 6m. There is a triangular distributed load that begins at 0m to 3m which is 2kN/m. (Max load is at 0m) There is an additional triangular distributed load that begin at 3m which mirrors the first...- Bill Nye Tho

Having some issues deriving internal force functions for a section.
(x-3) is the distance of the resultant force (225 lbs) from the distributed load at any given point between 9 and 13 feet. <---- I think this is my problem. It makes no sense. Since there is 0 shear after 9 feet, I'm just getting that the bending moment should be -200 lb-ft from 9 feet to 13...- Bill Nye Tho

Having some issues deriving internal force functions for a section.
Homework Statement I have a 13 foot long beam supported by a pin at x = 0 feet and a roller at x = 9 feet. There is a triangular distributed load of 50 lb/ft from 0 ft to 9 ft. (Increasing as it approaches 9 ft) At the end of the beam there is a moment of 200 lb-ft counter-clockwise.Homework...- Bill Nye Tho

Confusion about using the t table or z table for confidence intervals
Thanks for the reply lurflurf! That leads me to additional question. I'm given a data set of a sample of 18 students and their IQ scores. Why is the confidence interval for the mean IQ estimated with the Student's t-distribution. I can easily find the variance and the deviation from the data...- Bill Nye Tho

Confusion about using the t table or z table for confidence intervals
Here's the question: The PCB concentration of a fis hcaught in Lake Michigan was measured by a technique that is known to result in an error of measurement that is normally distributed with a standard deviation of .08 ppm. Suppose the results of 10 independent measurements of this fish are...- Bill Nye Tho

I know that, I'm just separating the added charge and added distance from the setup because I'm not even sure if I have that done correctly.- Bill Nye Tho
