How does the atmosphere affect human weight on Earth?
So humans are slightly buoyant? If I weighed 150 pounds would it be relieving less than a pound? Also how thick would our atmosphere have to be to have it exert pressure on us? For instance like how at certain depths water pressure starts to overcome buoyant forces on an object.- blarznik

How does the atmosphere affect human weight on Earth?
Does Earth's thick layer of atmosphere push down on us, increasing our weights drastically?- blarznik

Graduate How do massive stars like VY Canis not turn into black holes
Apparently VY Canis Majoris is 30–40 solar masses, also there's R136a1 which is 265 solar masses. How do they remain stars with all that mass?- blarznik

Undergrad Earth Reaches Sun's Chromosphere: Timing Estimate
I guess the acceleration time would be drastic. Also, looking at Earth's orbit, I never realized the present velocity was that fast, but that makes a lot of sense for how far it travels in a year.- blarznik

Undergrad Earth Reaches Sun's Chromosphere: Timing Estimate
Wow that's fast! So with 66 days of motion, using the AU as the distance, Earth's moving at about 1.4 million miles per day.- blarznik

Graduate What would happen if two Earth size planets very slowly collided?
Hypothetically this pseudo-Earth suddenly appears and follows the same orbit as Earth, but moves slightly faster. If it eventually collides with Earth at snail pace what would the gravitational effects be like? (maybe ignore the moons)- blarznik

Undergrad Earth Reaches Sun's Chromosphere: Timing Estimate
Roughly how long would it take, ending the time when Earth touches the Sun's Chromosphere layer. (Ignoring interfering with other planets' gravities as it moves toward the Sun, if that situation exists.)- blarznik

Undergrad Hypothetical number of ancestors in 399 BC
Good point. http://www.aisee.com/graph_of_the_month/inbred.gif I guess it gets confusing when cousin or uncle/nephew relationships happen.- blarznik

Undergrad Hypothetical number of ancestors in 399 BC
I was trying to get some idea of how many ancestors I had around the time of Socrates (399 BC is his death), so I tried coming up with a way to find it. So I'll start at my birthday which is 1991. I'll pretend that my parents were both 30 when they had me; I'll also pretend every pair in...- blarznik
