Atoms already in the container could only exit through the small left hole but would enter through the larger outer right hole. Many more atoms will enter...
Maxwell's demon is the little guy who opens an atomic door to a container to let atoms fly in, but shuts it before an atom flies out, thus increasing the internal pressure.
Suppose the walls of a container had several small cone-shaped holes built into it. The inside hole might be pretty...
I disagree. These are not unary operations. Logarithms require both a base and an argument, and for exponentiation, its a base to an exponent.
Log10(1000)=3
103=1000
I suppose you could make a case that a logarithm is unary once the base is nailed down (a la calculators), but exponents??
If you add, subtract, multiply, or divide things you will end up with a sum, difference, product, or quotient.
What is the result of exponentiation?
What is the result of a logarithm?
To HallsofIvy:
Sorry for the confusion.. I was trying to express that I wanted a function that is finitely expressible. It's true that I wasn't interested in a series.
A maclaurin series expansion will terminate if the nth derivative of the function is always zero after some n.
To arildno:
I...
Nope, this is what I'm looking to avoid. I can make a maclaurin series out of it, but that doesn't help me. What I mean is that I'm hoping it can be expressed without an implied infinite pattern. For instance, I don't want
f(x) = 1 + f'(0)x + \frac{1}{2}f''(0)x^2 +...
I'm searching for a function expressed explicitly as a non-infinite series where
f(0)=1/1
f'(0)=1/3
f''(0)=1/5
...
fn(0)=1/(2n+1)
...
Does it exist? What is it?
The gas released will cause motion in the y direction and it already has motion in the x direction. The gas won't affect x at all, so once the boost is over we want it to go 120 m/s forwards and y m/s up such that the x and y make a 23° angle. If the setup is a right triangle then the...
The work required to compress a spring is (1/2)kx2 where x is the compression in meters and k is the spring constant. If you figured the energy to compress the spring then you can solve for it, yes?
I agree with your first answer, for reasons the algebra suggests. Maybe solve for the boat speed in either case? It will likely be inconsistent at 4m/s.
I'll take a stab at it. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimatter_weapon the amount of energy produced by a gram of antimatter is 180 Tjoules, which is twice the amount predicted by your method. It may be since both matter and antimatter are being destroyed you must double the mass...
If I'm following this correctly, it will be the reverse answer of what you gave. Work is done only if there is some motion in the same direction of the force. By parallel, they mean parallel to the movement of the planet, or in the same direction as the V arrow. Perpendicular is perpendicular...
