Use IVT to show that f(x) exists on interval (0,1)

Ooooooooooohhhhhh. That clears up a lot! I could do the math, I just didn't know what I was doing. Aside for 3*1 of course, that's devilishly difficult.

Use IVT to show that f(x) exists on interval (0,1)

Well I'm an idiot, LOL! Fixing it now :D. Is that what I'm supposed to get? I suppose it's my lack of understand of what IVT really is. I wasn't really sure what an actually answer to this type of question would look like, so I wasn't sure where to go from there.

Use IVT to show that f(x) exists on interval (0,1)

Homework Statement Using IVT, show that 3(\cos(\pi x)) - 3x + 1 exists on interval (0,1) Homework Equations None The Attempt at a Solution I think I got the right idea, but on my quiz (this was a question I just had on a quiz) I didn't know if I was finished or not. So when using 0 on the...

Failed Calculus Quiz: Did I Get the First Question Right?

Well, if I write out the question factored, here's where I got to: \lim_{x\to2}{{(x-2)(x+2)}\over{(x-2)(x^2+2x+4)}} I guess I could cancel the (x - 2)'s, but then what? Got it, nvm :D

Failed Calculus Quiz: Did I Get the First Question Right?

This is basically what I answered. I ended up getting -1, but I didn't even know what that -1 meant, and I had no idea if I was even close to right. I think my trouble is that I don't understand limits or what they are, so it makes answering questions about them difficult. EDIT: Okay, so I know...

Failed Calculus Quiz: Did I Get the First Question Right?

Hey all, I just finished (aka, failed epically) a calculus quiz about 10 minutes ago. I'm in my school library right now and I'm just wondering if I got the first question of the quiz right. I'm just going to say what the question was since latex is bloody impossible to use. limit of x ->...

What is the Relationship Between Perimeter and Area in an Infinite Staircase?

The perimeter will polygon will always equal 4. The area, of the polygon, however, will come infinitely close to the area of the circle. At least that's my understanding.

What is the Relationship Between Perimeter and Area in an Infinite Staircase?

Alright, so I was just browsing 4Chan and I came across this post. [PLAIN]http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/5374/1291537737867.jpg I realize infinitely making corners out of corners may result in an approximation of a perfect curve, however, it will always be jagged and thus result in...

    Solving Algebra Problem: (7/4)^x = 5^(1-x)

Oh, that's much better! I totally forgot that I could just make it base 10. I was stuck in the thinking that when going from exponential form to logarithmic I had to do this: ab = c -> logac = b.

    Solving Algebra Problem: (7/4)^x = 5^(1-x)

Wow, haha. Of course it would come down to the easiest part. Thanks :)

    Solving Algebra Problem: (7/4)^x = 5^(1-x)

I suppose I should have posted what I've already tried to do (I worked on this question for over half an hour on my midterm). Here's what I've tried so far: (7/4)^x = 5^1-x log5(7/4)x = 1-x xlog5(7/4) = 1-x I'm not sure if I can bring the ^x to the front of the log, but that's what I did...

    Solving Algebra Problem: (7/4)^x = 5^(1-x)

Alright, I just did my Math midterm and I came across this question. (7/4)^x = 5^(1-x) I would use Latex, but I find it confusing to use :(. Anyways, what I ended up doing was using my graphing calculator and putting (7/4)^x in Y1 and 5^(1-x) in Y2. Then I just found where they intersect and...

    That sounds better, haha.

Can simpler terminology be used when teaching math concepts?

A function is a term that is used when an input will only result in a single output. For example: y = x2 is a function because no two inputs will result in the same output. the inverse, however, is not a function. y = \pm\sqrt{x} is not a function because a single input will result in...

Homework Statement A Norman window has the shape of a rectangle surmounted by a semicircle of diameter equal to the width of the rectangle. If the perimeter of the window is 20 feet, what dimensions will admit the most light (maximize the area)...
