Linear spring and non-linear spring
Homework Statement If a delicate istrument havng a mas of 5 kg is placed on a springof length L so tha its base just touches the undeformed spring and then inadvertly released from the position, determine the maximum deflection xm of the spring assuming (a) linear spring constant k=3000N/m...- talaroue

Solve 11.28 & 11.25 LOST Homework: dV/dx & Distance in Picture
For 11.28 I am not sure if I understand what you mean? I derived V using the relationship to a, which is a=V*dV/dx. making it V=a*dx/dV. for 11.25 the actual question is determine the postion of the particle when V=6m/s- talaroue

Given acceleration relation, find variables
I am stuck again, I solved the right side of the equation you created and got .6s. But on the left side i solved by substitution. Where u=1-kV du=k dV so the left side becomes... (1/k)ln(1-kV) over the intgral of V0=0 V1=4 m/s ...after everything cancels i have...- talaroue

Given acceleration relation, find variables
Homework Statement The acceleration of a particle is defined by the relation a=0.4(1-kV), where k is a constant. Knowing t=0 the particle starts from rest at x=4m and that when t=15s, V=4 m/s, determine... a)the constant k b)the postion when V=6m/s c) the maximum velocity of the particle...- talaroue

Statics Problem Submerged Object
I have a better understanding now I believe is this the correct value for P and W... P=width*specfic weight*hieght*height*(1/2) =.5m*(9800N/m^3)*.93 m* .93m *.5m=2119.005 N W=(area of triangle+area of rectangle)*9800 =(.5*.64*.48)+(.64*.45)=.4416*9800=4327.68 N- talaroue
