Does Linkage Matter in a Cross of Truebreeding Recessives?
Just a simple question, if I got two genes with 2 recessive mutants, let say the wildtype A and B with mutants a and b. And I cross truebreeding mutants (AA bb, aa BB), linkage, in this situation, doesn't matter, I'll get Aa Bb anyway, am I right ?- Yann

Probability and ribonucleotides
There's question in Hardt's Essential Genetics that bugs me, because I'm not sure if the answer is very simple or if I just don't get the question right. If you have a sequence of 4 ribonucleotides (with equal frequency), what is the probability to have a start codon/stop codon and what would be...- Yann

Transforming Differential Equations: Laplace and Algebra
In fact I think we have to go with; \frac{a}{([s+1]^2+1)(s^2+a^2)} = \frac{A(s+1)+B}{[s+1]^2+1}+\frac{Cs+D+E}{s^2+a^2}- Yann

Transforming Differential Equations: Laplace and Algebra
I tried, but I know the solution (because of Maple) is; y(t) = \frac{e^{-t}sin(t)a^3}{4+a^4}+\frac{2e^{-t}cos(t)a}{4+a^4}+\frac{2\sin(at)-2a\cos(at)-a^2\sin(at)}{4+a^4} And I'm not getting there.- Yann

Solving Oscillating Mass-Spring System w/ Non-Resonant Force
Thx for the help, I solved the diff. equation. But will the solution to the differential equation give me the position or the velocity at time t ? And there's no initial condition, only B\not = \sqrt{k/m}, I don't know what to do with it.- Yann

Solving Oscillating Mass-Spring System w/ Non-Resonant Force
I'm not sure I understand your point, it's more a problem of math than a problem of physics, I must solve; mx'' + kx = F \sin(Bt) But I don't know how- Yann

Transforming Differential Equations: Laplace and Algebra
Thx for the answer.. I really have to use Laplace transformes, it's in the question, and no, I tcan't use MatLab or any other programs, I need to do it manually.- Yann

Transforming Differential Equations: Laplace and Algebra
Homework Statement I must find the solution of a differential equation, but I'm stuck with a problem of algebra; Homework Equations The problem is y''+2y'+2y = sin(at) With y(0) = y(0)' = 0 y''+2y'+2y = sin(at) s^2L[y]+2sL[y]+2L[y] = \frac{a}{s^2+a^2} L[y](s^2+2s+2) =...- Yann

Calculating Maximum Height of Object Thrown Upward
I don't know much about classical physics, if I throw a rock or mass M upward with an initial velocity Z, with gravity g and air resistance A acting against it, is this equation the right one ; m\frac{dv}{dt} = (Z-g)m -Av Then if I want to know the maximal height, I just need to integrate...- Yann

Undergrad Statistical Test for Differences Between Groups with Varying Sizes
Hi, I want to know if the variations between the group means are statistically significant (which probably mean I'll need to use the size of the sample for each group as well).- Yann

Undergrad Statistical Test for Differences Between Groups with Varying Sizes
A very simple thing; I have to collect data with 4 different group size. Something like; Group A; 12.4, 17.8, 12.5 ... Group B; 15.2, 9.5, ... I simply want to know if the differences between the groups are statistically signifiant. I don't want anybody to explain the me the math, I just...- Yann

Undergrad How did ancient Greeks use geometry to solve algebraic equations?
I've heard ancient greeks were able to solve algebra using geometry. For example, if you have a line between two points AC (B being right in the middle), can you find a point x so; AB/AX = AX/AC if a is length of AB, then AB = a and AC = 2a, so the problem is really about; a/x =...- Yann
