AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the concept of animals, specifically cows, having regional accents, as highlighted in a CNN article. Participants reference studies indicating that not only cows but also dogs and birds exhibit variations in their vocalizations based on geographical location. Anecdotal observations include differences in cow sounds noted in New Brunswick, where one participant humorously suggests that local breeding may influence these "voices." The conversation also touches on the idea of accents in whales, with a playful comparison between northern and southern cows. Overall, the dialogue emphasizes the intriguing notion that animal communication may reflect regional characteristics, contributing to scientific understanding of animal behavior.

i think I've seen a study where dogs barks have accents... I'll see if I can dig it up.

And birds, too!

Yes, studies were done comparing rooster crows around the world. They're different.

I noticed a whole herd of cows saying mayyyyyyyyyyyiii{little squeek at the end} when I was in New Brunswick. It was very noticable, so much so, that I commented on the accent to my host, who being Canadian, claimed it was I who moo'ed funny.

Do any go "moof?"

Are you sure the farmers haven't just been out in the sun too long? I wonder if it's due to local breeding selecting different "voices."
