AI Thread Summary
Erich von Däniken, a Swiss hotelier, gained notoriety in 1968 with his book "Chariots of the Gods," which proposed theories about ancient astronauts. Despite facing skepticism from mainstream scholars, he has continued to develop his ideas for over three decades. His latest venture is the creation of a tourist attraction called "mystery park," aimed at bringing his theories to a wider audience. The discussion highlights a critical view of the quality of content in publications like Fortean Times, suggesting that it has become less credible and more sensationalist over the years, drawing parallels to tabloid journalism.

"In 1968, a Swiss hotelier named Erich von Däniken burst onto the literary scene with a book called Chariots of the Gods. His theories about ancient astronauts drew scorn from the establishment, but von Däniken has pursued his vision for over 30 years, and is about to translate it into a surprising new medium - the tourist attraction. Jürgen Heinzerling traveled to Switzerland to meet the man behind ‘mystery park’."
