Notation for Weak Nuclear Force Particles

The notations are: W^+, W^-, and Z^0. I'm assuming the W stands for Weak. But, why Z for the neutral one? Is there even a reason?

Why does there have to be a reason? Why do we say "lion" instead of "really big cat with a mane"?
 
ahaanomegas, I looked on Wikipedia and found the answer immediately. I bet you could too! :smile:
 
Hmm, so calling it Z0 is actually redundant!
