AI Thread Summary
Condoleezza Rice has been named the most powerful woman in the world by Forbes, leading a list that includes prominent figures such as China's Wu Li and India's Sonia Gandhi. Other notable entries are Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, and U.S. Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Ginsburg. The list also features international leaders like Indonesia's Megawati Sukarnoputri and the Philippines' Gloria Arroyo, along with business leaders like Carly Fiorina and Margaret Whitman. The discussion highlights the significance of Rice's recognition, particularly as a black woman in a powerful role, and raises questions about the criteria for power in the context of former positions and gender dynamics. The mention of potential political matchups, such as Hillary Clinton versus Condoleezza Rice in 2004, adds to the conversation about their influence.

American National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice has been named the most powerful woman in the world.

The US President's right hand woman topped a list including politicians, royalty and showbiz names.

Second in the Forbes rundown was China's vice-premier Wu Li with Sonia Gandhi, president of India's Congress Party.

George Bush's wife saw her role as America's First Lady propel her to fourth with her predecessor Senator Hilary Clinton next.

In sixth and seventh respectively were American supreme court justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Ginsburg.

Indonesia's president Megawati Sukarnoputri was eighth, president of the Philippines Gloria Arroyo at nine and Hewlett-Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina placed at 10

The most powerful member of royalty according to the list was Queen Rania of Jordan at 13, nine places ahead of Britain's Queen Elizabeth.

Chat show queen Oprah Winfrey was ranked 62nd.

From business, eBay chief executive Margaret Whitman made an entry in 51st place.

Liliane Bettencourt, owner of French cosmetics giant L'Oreal was placed 79th.

So being a former holder of an unofficial position makes them powerful? Uh, ok...

Has a black woman ever been labeled the 'most powerful woman in the world' before?

Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
