AI Thread Summary
A user in Japan seeks a replacement v-pulley for a 500 psi air compressor with a broken cast iron, double V belt pulley. Suggested sources for replacement include McMaster-Carr, Grainger, and W.M. Berg, which offers a worksheet for matching parts. It's noted that overseas shipping may increase costs. Alternatives to the double-V pulley, such as chain drives or single-V pulleys, can be considered as long as the general ratio is maintained. The discussion emphasizes that 500 psi is manageable, suggesting flexibility in the replacement options.

I am in Japan and recently acquired a salvage high pressure (500 psi) air compressor. It was junked because the large spoked flywheel v-pulley on the compressor had broken. The pulley is cast iron, about 15", double V belt, keyed shaft about 1.25'.

Could you suggest a source for a replacement of such a v pulley?

(Power for this unit is a Kohler 12 HP electric stat engine ... runs perfectly. Would like to get this unit up and running again.)

Thanks,

E Lee

Check into McMaster-Carr, http://www.mcmaster.com/ or Grainger http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml

You can also try W.M. Berg. Here is a worksheet you can fill out and fax to them and they will see if they can match what you need: http://www.wmberg.com/faxbelt.html

I'm sure you'll have to pay a bit more for overseas shipping.

Check out, http://www.globalspec.com/

Some very good links there.

Keep in mind as well that just because the thing started with a double-V pulley is no reason to keep it that way. Feel free to substitute a chain drive, gears, Gilmer drive, single-V, etc., as long as you keep the same general ratio that it's designed for. 500psi is not actually very high for a compressor, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about tolerances. (A little pocket-size 12 VDC automotive compressor goes up to 300 psi; heavy-duty home types can hit 2500, and I don't even know what the upper limit for industrial models is.)

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
