"War is always the same. It is young men dying in the fullness of their promise. It is trying to kill a man that you do not even know well enough to hate. It is a crime against mankind. So much courage. So much will. So many dreams that must be flung on the fires of war and death. We therefore say again tonight, let us choose peace, and with it, the wondrous works of peace."

We can all say things that apply at certain times and not others. We can all have noble intentions of which we fall short. We can all utter nonsense. We can all backtrack and contradict what was said earlier. Complete, unfailing and unflinching consistency is a dream and not a very desirable one.

: I agree with your sentiment. It is heartbreaking to see young men and women lose their lives in war, especially when they are fighting against someone they do not even know. It is a reminder of the senseless violence and destruction that occurs in war. Bush's words about choosing peace over war are powerful and important. It is a shame that his actions did not always align with this message during his presidency. It is a reminder that leaders have a responsibility to prioritize peace and diplomacy over war and aggression. Let us hope that future leaders will learn from the mistakes of the past and strive for peaceful solutions to conflicts.

Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
