AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the high cost of space travel, specifically a $35 million price tag for a trip to space. Participants express skepticism about the value of such an expense, with some humorously questioning the sanity of anyone willing to pay that much. There are mentions of Richard Branson's plans for a spaceport in New Mexico, suggesting that prices may decrease in the future. The conversation also touches on the nature of scientists, who are portrayed as driven by curiosity rather than financial sensibility, indicating that the pursuit of discovery often outweighs practical considerations. Overall, the tone is lighthearted, with jokes about the absurdity of the cost and the motivations behind space travel.

Sure, I'll call my friend Bill.

Wholly crap. Even if I had the money, I still don't think I could do it through the Russians.

Catch Osama. I am sure you would get enough money to do the spacewalk at least 10 times.

Hmmm...15 million to you to a rope and push you out into space? Nah, I don't think it's worth it.

Do we really need the rope?

Have penguins been to space before? :P

Sensible :bugeye: Good gods man, we work in universities!

Scientists are NOT sensible. If we were, we would have been bussiness majors. No expense or effort is to great to tap into that great spirit of discovery. Which going into space really does well.
