News Are Australians and East Asians Kidnapped in Iraq?

AI Thread Summary
Two Australians and two East Asians have reportedly been kidnapped in Iraq, according to a statement from the Islamic Secret Army distributed in Samarra. In response, the Australian government has activated a contingency plan, which includes having hostage negotiators on standby, although Foreign Minister Alexander Downer emphasized that this does not imply negotiations with terrorists. The discussion also touches on the presence of Canadians in Iraq, with some confusion regarding Canada's military involvement, clarifying that Canada was sending peacekeepers to Afghanistan rather than Iraq.

Now the australians are being held hostage. Damn it'll be the Canadians next, they're getting way out of order.

Update.
AUSTRALIA has activated a contingency plan after reports two Australians had been taken hostage in Iraq, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said today.

Mr Downer confirmed that part of the plan involved having hostage negotiators on standby, but said that did not mean the Government would negotiate with terrorists.
