AI Thread Summary
Egocentricism and egotism are defined as self-centered tendencies, with egocentricism focusing on viewing everything in relation to oneself and egotism emphasizing selfishness and the belief in the primacy of one's own existence. The discussion raises the question of whether these traits are inherent to all scientists and politicians, as well as to humanity as a whole. It suggests that while egocentricism and egotism are prevalent, they coexist with qualities like benevolence and altruism. The conversation also highlights the potential negative consequences of extreme self-focus, as seen in individuals who prioritize others' interests to their detriment, while noting that egotists tend to avoid discussing others.

One nice thing about egotists: they don't talk about other people.
