AI Thread Summary
Armenia's future economic growth and security hinge on enhancing its scientific and R&D capabilities, which currently face significant gaps. The Gituzh initiative emphasizes the need for competitive scientific infrastructure to address national challenges. In response, Armenia's Science Committee has introduced grant programs aimed at attracting global researchers to bolster the country's scientific landscape. Key initiatives include the LAURIK and CARIN fellowships, targeting young and mid-career researchers to establish labs, and the ARPI program for experienced academics to lead remote labs in competitive fields. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to revive Armenia's scientific ecosystem and foster innovation.

The nations that prevail in a soaring global economy are those whose R&D, high-tech, and intellectual strength thrive. Unfortunately, Armenia faces an enormous gap between desire and achievement, and the question is what can be done to close it?

🇦🇲 The Gituzh initiative believes that Armenia's future security, economic growth, and overall development depend on having competitive scientific and R&D capabilities able to support the nation's needs and help tackle the obstacles the country faces. This article in https://www.linkedin.com/company/evn-report/ is by and large a summary of Armenia’s scientific ecosystem gaps and the efforts to bridge them to revive:https://lnkd.in/de8XAGWd

📣 Eventually, it is a call for researchers worldwide. Armenia’s Science Committee has launched ambitious grant programs to attract scientists and researchers from around the world to come to Armenia and strengthen scientific excellence in the country.

LAURIK and CARIN, a call for relatively young and mid-career researchers to relocate to Armenia to establish a lab/form a group. The other program, ARPI, targets researchers, professors, and tenured professors or equivalent positions in order to establish and lead remote labs in competitive fields.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
