AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the challenges of recreating the "costume" used in the Patterson footage, with participants asserting that the creature depicted is not a man in a costume. A comparison is made between the Patterson image and a costume from the wildlife documentary series X-Creatures, highlighting the significant size difference. The conversation touches on pop culture references, including an X-Files episode that humorously incorporates the Patterson film. Some participants express interest in wearing a costume for a fee, while others experience technical difficulties accessing video footage of the creature, indicating frustration with broken links on the referenced site. Overall, the dialogue emphasizes skepticism about costume recreations and the enduring intrigue surrounding the Patterson footage.

Q: Why can't it be done? Why can't anyone accurately recreate the "costume" used in the Patterson footage?

A: It's not a man in a costume ...

The image on the right is from a scene in an episode of X-Creatures. X-Creatures was a wildlife documentary series made by a production company under contract with the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). The episode was filmed around 1995 or later...[continued]

Boy, when you put a guy in a costume side by side with the Patterson image you can really see how massive the Patterson creature is.

Good article, Ivan.

kinda funny-saw X-Files last night-Mulder was watching the Patterson film---but it started with two greys in the middle of the road, then this 'Saucer'lands and there's this wild moster--then one of the greys says, 'what the hell was that Bob!'
D if I know!...

anyway-i'd wear the suit for a $K--but i want 500 up front-
nobody's going to make a monkey outta me!

Zooby--what about those 'grey costumes'?
Can you do that floating thing?:)]

I'm having problems with the links on that site.

There's a link that says "moving" under this picture that takes me to this page, instead of footage

Does that happen for anyone else, or do you get video of the creature moving?

I don't see the link that says "moving" at all. All I see there are still frames from films.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
