AI Thread Summary
To build a magnetic railgun, understanding the physics behind projectile motion is crucial, and specific equations can be utilized to calculate projectile speed. The interaction between electricity and magnetism is fundamental, as they are manifestations of the same force, which explains the behavior of magnets when electric current flows. The discussion emphasizes the importance of grasping these concepts for effective railgun design. Additionally, resources like Wikipedia can provide foundational knowledge. Mastering these principles is essential for successful railgun construction.

Hey everyone

I've been wanting to create a magnetic railgun for some time. I have a few questions though.

1. What equations can i use to calculate how fast the "projectile" are moving?
2. Why do the magnets respond like this when electricity flows??

Thanks!

The answer is that electricity and magnetism are the same force, seen from different points of view.

Thread 'Motional EMF in Faraday disc, co-rotating magnet axial mean flux'
So here is the motional EMF formula. Now I understand the standard Faraday paradox that an axis symmetric field source (like a speaker motor ring magnet) has a magnetic field that is frame invariant under rotation around axis of symmetry. The field is static whether you rotate the magnet or not. So far so good. What puzzles me is this , there is a term average magnetic flux or "azimuthal mean" , this term describes the average magnetic field through the area swept by the rotating Faraday...
