AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the challenge of completing a Bachelor of Science in Physics due to an outstanding balance preventing return to school. The individual is 12 credits short of graduation and is inquiring whether achieving a strong score on the Physics Graduate Record Examination (PGRE) could compensate for the lack of completed credits. Responses indicate skepticism about the effectiveness of a PGRE score as a substitute for the required academic credits, suggesting that most institutions prioritize degree completion over standardized test scores for admission into graduate programs.

Hi Physics Forums,

I have a bit of a dilemma because I am 12 credits short of completing my B.S. in Physics, but cannot return to school due to an outstanding balance and an inability to immediately repay it. So, my question is the following: given that I am just 12 credits shy of my degree, would a good PGRE score make an acceptable substitute? All opinions welcome. Thank you.

I highly doubt it.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
