AI Thread Summary
Carbon dating gases is theoretically possible if the gas has been isolated from atmospheric CO2 over time, allowing for reliable measurement of Carbon-14 content. Techniques such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) can be used to analyze carbon isotopes in gases. Research indicates that organic gases can be carbon dated, as demonstrated in relevant studies. The accuracy of dating depends on the specific gas and the historical context of its isolation. Overall, while challenging, carbon dating gases offers insights into past events.

Maybe. Which gas and date since when, i.e. what event?

As long as the gas has been totally isolated from the atmospheric CO2 over the millennia, the Carbon 14 content can be relied on not to have changed. Plants lock it in more reliably.
