Can Modal Values be Read Off from an Applet Graph?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the challenge of reading modal values from a linked applet graph that plots the relationship between modal values and temperature. Users express skepticism about the feasibility of directly obtaining these values from the graph, as there are no y-axis markings for accurate readings. The suggested method for obtaining readings involves measuring the graph with a ruler, but this approach is limited by the lack of defined ranges for the scroll bars. Calibration based on known relations is necessary to make any accurate measurements. Overall, the consensus is that extracting precise modal values from the applet is problematic without additional calibration.

Homework Statement

Using the applet linked-to below, I would like to plot a graph showing the dependence of the modal value (i.e. position of maximum) and the mean with temperature.

Is it possible to read off modal values? Is there some means by which this can be done as there do not appear to be values on the y-axis for taking such readings.

Welcome to PF, Louise2012!

With an applet like that I don't think you can simply read off values.

If you want to take readings, the best you can do is simply measuring them off your screen with a ruler.

Of course an additional problem is that the ranges of the scroll bars is not given.
So you would have to calibrate them yourself based on known relations.

Thread 'Help with Time-Independent Perturbation Theory "Good" States Proof'
(Disclaimer: this is not a HW question. I am self-studying, and this felt like the type of question I've seen in this forum. If there is somewhere better for me to share this doubt, please let me know and I'll transfer it right away.) I am currently reviewing Chapter 7 of Introduction to QM by Griffiths. I have been stuck for an hour or so trying to understand the last paragraph of this proof (pls check the attached file). It claims that we can express Ψ_{γ}(0) as a linear combination of...
