Can Self-Study Prepare You for a Physics PhD?

Hi, everyone. I'm new here (duh). I truly wish I had found this site earlier. I'm currently self-studying for entry into a physics PhD program, having finished my Masters last summer (I'm in Mexico; here we have the Bachelor-Master-PhD route).

I'm looking around the site and enjoying it quite a lot.
