SUMMARY

The discussion centers on issues with running gnuplot on macOS, specifically the inability to utilize x11 or AquaTerm for plot display. Users report that when executing the command 'set term', neither x11 nor AquaTerm appears in the list of available terminal types. This indicates a configuration problem or missing dependencies that prevent proper graphical output. Solutions have not been universally effective, leading to ongoing frustration among users seeking to visualize their plots.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of gnuplot commands and syntax
  • Familiarity with macOS terminal operations
  • Knowledge of X11 and AquaTerm installation processes
  • Experience with troubleshooting software installations on macOS
NEXT STEPS
  • Research how to install and configure XQuartz for X11 support on macOS
  • Learn the installation process for AquaTerm and its integration with gnuplot
  • Explore gnuplot's terminal options and how to add custom terminals
  • Investigate common troubleshooting steps for graphical applications on macOS
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for macOS users, data analysts, and scientists who need to visualize data using gnuplot but are encountering graphical output issues.

I've been trying for a bit to get gnuplot to run on my mac but it doesn't seem to work properly. I can get it to run but it doesn't seem to recognize x11 or aquaterm for some reason so I can't actually display and plots. When I type set term it brings up a list of available terms but neither of the aforementioned are listed.

I've tried googling the problem and found some people with similar problems but nothing that seems to work for me.

If anyone has any words of wisdom it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much
