SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the impact of car paint on the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ drone's antenna performance, leading to Radio Frequency (RF) interference and erratic flight behavior. Users suggest investigating the weight difference between painted and unpainted drones, as well as the conductivity of the car paint. Key considerations include the location and design of the antenna, with recommendations to potentially relocate it externally to mitigate interference without removing the paint.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) interference
  • Familiarity with drone components, specifically antenna design
  • Knowledge of weight distribution effects on drone flight
  • Basic principles of conductive materials and their impact on signal transmission
NEXT STEPS
  • Research methods to test RF interference in drones
  • Learn about antenna placement and optimization techniques for drones
  • Investigate the properties of conductive paints and their effects on electronics
  • Explore weight management strategies for improved drone stability
USEFUL FOR

Drone enthusiasts, hobbyists, and professionals seeking to optimize drone performance and troubleshoot RF interference issues related to modifications like painting.

Hello all, I have a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ and I just recently had it painted. It is painted like a car would be painted. Ever since the new paint job, my drone is not flying right. It is displaying symptoms of Radio Frequency (RF) interference. The main issue is that it is now flying erratically when I try to fly it. My question is, how can I mitigate this issue without having to remove the paint altogether?

You might try weighing an unpainted drone (if store/dealer allows you), and compare it to your painted weight.

How much is conductive that car paint?

Where is the antenna and what does it look like? If it is a bare wire, can you mount it outside instead of inside?
