Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around recommendations for classical mechanics video lectures and books, specifically targeting upper-level topics such as central body motion, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics. Participants seek resources beyond introductory physics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests suggestions for video lectures on advanced classical mechanics topics, indicating a preference for content beyond freshman physics.
  • Another participant provides links to several video lecture series, including those by Susskind, Balakrishnan, and Maloney, which cover advanced topics in classical mechanics.
  • A different participant expresses gratitude for the provided links and acknowledges a delay in their response.
  • One participant shifts the topic slightly by inquiring about book recommendations as alternatives to Marion and Thornton's "Classical Dynamics," indicating a need for textual resources.
  • Another participant suggests a specific book as a potential replacement for Marion and Thornton, directing the inquirer to a link for further information.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for advanced resources in classical mechanics, but there is no consensus on specific book recommendations beyond the suggestion made.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not resolve the inquiry about book alternatives comprehensively, as it relies on a single suggestion and points to other threads for further exploration.

Who May Find This Useful

Students and educators seeking advanced resources in classical mechanics, including video lectures and textbooks, may find this discussion beneficial.

Hello,
I wonder if you got any suggestions for classical mechanics video lectures? I don't mean freshman physics, but rather the course which includes the topics such as central body motion, lagrangian, hamiltonian, etc. (I guess it is considered as an upper level course on most schools)

Links are very helpful.
Thanks a lot! (and sorry for the late reply.)

Sorry to be posting under video lectures, but I couldn't find any posts on books for classical mechanics. Does anybody know of any book replacement for Marion and Thornton Classical Dynamics? Any help would be appreciated.
