Complementing my Management Sciences/Operations Research

AI Thread Summary
An undergraduate student in Management Sciences is seeking advice on selecting a minor to complement their major, which focuses on problem-solving without a specific domain specialization. They are considering Finance, Economics, and Computer Science but are uncertain about the relevance and future prospects of these fields in relation to Operations Research (O.R). Feedback suggests that all three domains can align well with Management Sciences, though Computer Science may be the weakest connection. Alternatives like manufacturing methods or statistics are recommended, but the student notes that their university does not offer manufacturing methods. Instead, they express interest in courses like advanced statistical analysis and Dynamical Systems, aiming to integrate O.R knowledge with Computer Science algorithms. The discussion invites further opinions on this topic.

Hey there, I am an undergraduate student doing Management Sciences. I love my subjects, the courses and projects. However I personally feel I should choose a minor to complement my major. As Management Sciences/OR deals "problem solving" at the core and does not "specialize" into a specific domain such as Computer Science/Finance...I want to know what can be possible domains to complement my major and how would my MS/OR learning would help/impact my choice of domain... I have so far selected three domains but I am unsure as how exactly will they be useful and what's hold in the future for these fields with respect to O.R

1. Finance

2. Economics

3. Computer Science

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

All three would work well with your program. Your weakest tie in is #3. Computer Science. You might consider manufacturing methods or Statistics (statistical process controls) (if they are offered) as better options (My opinion only, I hate finance, and Economics seems bland, so of course I would offer this advice.)

Thankyou so much. Well unfortunately there is no manufacturing methods course being offered at our university however there are courses of advanced statistical analysis and Dynamical Systems. I personally want to blend my OR knowledge and its algorithms with the rigorous approach of CS in designing and applying Algorithms.

Anyone else if they could please share their opinion? Thankyou

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation.
