For a 'bright' highly coherent source, there would be many photons involved and, although I really don't like this, you could say that many of the photons will 'interfere with each other'.mfb said:If each photon only interferes with itself
I always have a problem with the attempt to interpret wave phenomena in terms of photons; doesn't it call for a real strange concept of the coherence of a single photon? The photon could only actually 'arrive' at one place, which is not a pattern. But the place where it arrives could be at a peak (or null?) in the theoretical pattern and the value will be one.
A stream of single photons will form a pattern, over time. What would determine the spread of the diffraction pattern from the ideal case? Perhaps it would have to be the bandwidth of the original light source, before the 'photon gate' is operated
