How can I create a device that indicates the direction of sound source?

Click For Summary
To create a device that indicates the direction of a sound source, consider using the principle of sound localization, similar to how human ears perceive sound. The device could utilize microphones placed at a distance apart to detect sound waves, measuring the time delay between when the sound reaches each microphone. Implementing a microcontroller can help process the signals and determine the direction based on the time differences. Additionally, incorporating visual indicators, like LEDs, could enhance the user experience by showing the direction of the sound source. This project combines elements of acoustics, electronics, and programming for an engaging science exhibition.

Use your ear as an example. You can tell the direction of sound based on the time delay the sound takes to get from one ear to other.

You would need to design something along these lines. Any ideas where to start?
