Electric motor with outer rotor

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on finding a DC motor with an outer rotor design, similar to the mechanical structure of computer cooling fans or ceiling fans. Participants clarify that typical cooling and ceiling fans use AC motors, not DC motors. The term "outrunner" is suggested as a potential solution for the desired motor type. One participant provides a link to a site with outrunner motors but notes they may not meet the specific requirements. The conversation emphasizes the need for clarity on specifications to better assist in the search for the motor.

I'm trying to find a DC motor with the rotating part on the exterior (the electromagnets and wires attached to the central axis) - something similar to a computer cooling fan or ceiling fan. It must be as powerful as possible for about 2 inches diameter. Any idea where I could find such a thing on the internet?

I'd be amazed if you can find one that even exists, that you would be pretty awsome.

PC cooling fans and ceiling fans are not DC motors. They are AC motors. I know lots of places where you can find a AC motor and controller which will have a DC input to the controller.

When I said "something similar to a computer cooling fan or ceiling fan" I was referring to the mechanical similarity (i.e having the rotor on the exterior).

If you know where I could find such a motor (rotor in the exterior) with DC input please tell me.

The term for what you're looking for is an 'outrunner' motor. Try Googling that and you'll find lots of info.

Hmmm...
Give me a couple of days to sober up and I'll take another shot at it. It would be helpful if you can be more specific as to your requirements. Outrunners are the only things that I can think of, off of the top of my head, that match the originally posted question.

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
