AI Thread Summary
Email notifications for new private messages appear to be inconsistent, with some users reporting a lack of notifications despite no changes to their settings. One user noted they haven't received notifications since May 4th, while another mentioned their last notification was on April 23rd. There is speculation that the issue may have started after a hard drive replacement, although this could be coincidental. Some users experienced a temporary disruption, but notifications eventually resumed. Overall, the reliability of email notifications for private messages is currently in question.

Are they still sent? Seems like I have not received at least three in the last few days, even if they were sent before and I have not touched my configuration.

Nothing came through, also nothing landed in my spam box.

All spam filters I am aware off (that is the ones on my computer and the ones at the hosting company) have been not touched in months.

I have added instant mail notification to this very thread, just out of curiosity.

And I have just checked - last notification I got was from April 23rd. I have a feeling that notifications stopped coming after the HDD was replaced, but it can be a pure coincidence.

Same thing happened here for a few days but it went back to normal.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
