AI Thread Summary
A student on a six-year academic plan, due to a major change and a medical leave, is entering their fifth year and is interested in participating in the Putnam and University Physics Competitions in the upcoming Fall. The competition rules do not explicitly restrict students who have been in college for more than four years, only requiring that participants be undergraduates. To ensure eligibility, the student plans to email the competition committee for clarification and a timely response regarding participation.

I'm on a six year plan after changing majors at the end of sophomore year and having to take medical leave for the second half of freshman year, and I'm starting my fifth year in August. I'd like to participate in the Putnam and the University Physics Competition this upcoming Fall. The rules for those competitions don't explicitly forbid students who have been in college more than four years, requiring only that participants be undergraduates, but I wanted to confirm that it's possible for me to enter.

I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
