To estimate an x value from a known y value in Excel, users can draw a horizontal line at the specified y value and then a vertical line down to the data line. This can be accomplished by going to "Insert >> Shapes" and selecting the line tool to manually create the lines. While this method is straightforward, some users question if there is a more efficient approach. The discussion highlights the need for clarity on the best practices for visualizing data in Excel. Overall, manual line drawing is a common solution, though alternative methods may exist.

I have a graph in excel and i need to estimate an x value with a known y value. Pretty much i need to draw a horizontal line at y= given value over to my data line. Then a vertical line down to find the x value. How can i do this?

Im not sure what version of excel you are using, but you could go "Insert >> Shapes" and then select the line and manually draw the lines and adjust as necessary. I am not sure if there is a better way.
