Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around a problem related to torque and the dynamics of a stick being released from an angle. The original poster expresses uncertainty in their initial posting and attempts to clarify the situation involving a stick's motion.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants are exploring the setup of the problem, questioning the original poster about the specifics of the stick's motion and the nature of the inquiry regarding the time it takes to fall.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants seeking clarification on the original question and the assumptions made regarding the motion of the stick. Some guidance has been offered regarding the complexities of the problem, particularly concerning the non-uniform speed and acceleration.

Contextual Notes

There appears to be some confusion about the problem's requirements, particularly whether the question pertains to the time of fall and the conditions under which the stick is released.

the red circle area is an axis.

Ok jordanhuh I guess you have a stick of mass m that you are holding up at an angle theta and it is hinged at the base and you release it and it falls to the ground. Right? So what do you want to know about it, that is, what is the question?

the time that the stick takes to fall.

Have you made an attempt at a solution? Are you sure the problem is asking for the time? With non uniform speed and non constant acceleration tangentially , angularly and centripetally, and small angle for theta with vertical, the problem is not easily solved .
