AI Thread Summary
The FBI is investigating potential fraud involving major financial institutions, including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman Brothers, and AIG, according to two law enforcement officials. There is a strong sentiment among commenters that these investigations are overdue, with some expressing frustration that action is being taken years after the financial crisis began. Calls for accountability extend to other figures in the mortgage industry, such as former Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo. The discussion emphasizes the role of law enforcement agencies like the DHS and FBI in protecting the economy from domestic threats, highlighting a perceived delay in addressing these issues.
