SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the scarcity of suppliers for electret materials, with participants noting that most available products are limited to electret microphones. Users express frustration over the lack of options for hobbyists and inquire about the behavior of electrets in relation to electric fields. Specifically, questions arise regarding the interaction of electrets with electroscopes and whether the effect is temporary or sustained. The consensus is that manufacturers are primarily focused on commercial clients rather than individual hobbyists.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electret materials and their properties
  • Basic knowledge of electrostatics and electric fields
  • Familiarity with electroscopes and their operational principles
  • Awareness of the differences between electrets and magnets
NEXT STEPS
  • Research suppliers of electret materials beyond microphones
  • Explore the principles of electrostatics in detail
  • Investigate the behavior of electrets in various applications
  • Learn about the construction and use of electroscopes
USEFUL FOR

Hobbyists, educators, and researchers interested in electrostatics, as well as anyone seeking to understand the practical applications of electret materials.

Hello :)

Does anyone know where I can get any amount of some sort of electret material? All I find online are electret microphones...

Also, if possible, some details about said material.

Thank you!

You are right; there are NO suppliers for electret materials on the web! This is very strange; I guess they are not interested in dealing with hobbyists, and will only deal with other manufacturers.

Hi i am new to this forum. just want to find whether an electret exactly beahaves like a electric counterpart of a magnet. I mean if you hold it to a electroscope would the leaves repel each other as long as its in contact with the electret or is it just for a moment the electroscope responses. thanks in advance.
