SUMMARY

The discussion centers on calculating the area between the curves defined by the equations y = X^2 - 2x and y = X + 4. The correct area, as confirmed by the teacher, is 125/6, while the user initially calculated 99/6 due to a miscalculation in the final step. The user corrected their approach by recognizing that the subtraction should involve -13/6 instead of 13/6, leading to the accurate result.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of integral calculus
  • Familiarity with finding areas between curves
  • Knowledge of polynomial functions
  • Ability to perform algebraic manipulations
NEXT STEPS
  • Review techniques for calculating areas between curves using definite integrals
  • Practice solving polynomial equations and their intersections
  • Learn about the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus
  • Explore graphical methods for visualizing area calculations
USEFUL FOR

Students studying calculus, particularly those focusing on integral applications, as well as educators looking for examples of area calculations between curves.

The Attempt at a Solution

I tried solving the problem more than once, but i keep getting a wrong answer.
my teacher said the answer should be 125/6 and I keep getting 99/6, so can you please check my work and tell me what I did wrong. thank you.

At the very end, it should be
\frac{112}{6} - \left( -\frac{13}{6} \right)
not
\frac{112}{6} - \frac{13}{6}

oh good eyes. thank you so much for pointing that out for me. thank you
