AI Thread Summary
A user reported that a forced password change on Physicsforums resulted in the disappearance of their private messages. Initially, they believed their messages were lost from both their Inbox and Outbox. However, after further checking, they found that their private message file showed all 29 messages restored. The user speculated that the disappearance might have been a temporary glitch related to the password change process. The Physicsforums just forced me to change my password and destroyed my private messages. Give me back my messages!

Destroyed them? Are you sure? I've never heard of such a thing. I will check the database...

chroot - Warren, please check for me. What I should have said was that my private messages "disappeared", in that the messages that were present suddenly vacated my Inbox and Outbox. I had several in each, but upon giving my new password, the In & Out boxe contents disappeared.
EDIT: I just checked again, and my private message file shows 29 messages, so they appear to all be put back. If you chroot accomplished this for me, then Thanks to you.. If you did not work to accomplish this, then the apparent initial disappearance is likely one effect, temporary, of the forced password change process.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
