AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the feasibility of the Galactic Suite space hotel, which claims to open by the end of 2012. Concerns are raised regarding the engineering and funding necessary for such a project, with skepticism about the company's actual progress and engineering work. Participants express doubt about the viability of a private company successfully launching a space hotel within the proposed timeline. Additionally, there is mention of Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic, with opinions suggesting it is unlikely that a space hotel will be operational in less than three years. Overall, the consensus leans toward skepticism about the project's timeline and feasibility.

Hey all, I just saw an http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/odd/6422739/space-hotel-says-its-on-schedule-to-open-in-2012/" ) that claims they will have a space hotel operational by the end of 2012. I was just curious as to if the engineering community (thats you guys!) thought that this is even feasible, not only from a funding standpoint, but even if the money was available, if a private company would be able to put up the hardware for a venture like this in time. To me, it seems like this whole company is almost a joke since I can't find any evidence that they've actually done any engineering work on the project. But someone here might know something I don't. And while we're on the subject, what's the latest on Richard Branson and Virgin galactic?

Let's just say is is HIGHLY improbable that they will have a "space hotel" in orbit in less than 3 years. I would even be skeptical if they were quoting by 2020...

Now that they have shared their findings with the larger community someone else might find an explanation - or maybe it was actually made by life.
TL;DR Summary: In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. In case of failure to detect alien signals, it will further expand the radius of the so-called silence (or rather, radio silence) of the Universe. Is there any sense in this or is blissful ignorance better? In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. Your posts, clips and photos may by all means include scientific information; that does not make it less beautiful to me (n.b. the posts must of course comply with the PF guidelines, i.e. regarding science, only mainstream science is allowed, fringe/pseudoscience is not allowed). n.b.
