So, I'm pretty psyched, cause i went to the eye doctor and found out, that i semi sort of do need glasses! I've wanted them for years, cause i think glasses are really hot. I'm only a little bit near-sighted, and i have a slight stigmatism in my right eye, but my overall vision's like 20/30 i think... So, legal to drive and all that. But I'm getting glasses anyways. I'm sort hoping i'll look less intimidating in them, to the other geeky boys in class. Probably won't happen, but meh. I think i look sort of like a hot librarian in them, you know like "hey boys, do you need help finding something? what's that you're studying anatomy?... *whoosh, books go flying*... Let me help." heheh... Anyways, that's my big exciting news, thought i'd share...

Ooh, now you can catch mattmns attention. He likes gals in glasses!

cool! pair the glasses with a tight sweater and you will kill! Just watch out for lecherous profs!
And of course you know the old trick about putting your hair up in a bun and then releasing it and flipping your flowing locks around?
I bet Moonbear's stunned a few boys with that one.

 You know, this whole goddess thing isn't all it's cracked up to be. Most men are too intimidated to talk to me, and the ones that are interested get thrown into the volcano. Maybe I should start wearing glasses too.

Glasses really do make a person less intimidating. I find it a lot easier to talk to girls that wear glasses just because they seem more "my type".

Just don't tie your hair back and wear glasses at the same time. You'll look like the up-tight librarian instead of the cute librarian.

Hi Gale17;
As mentioned in a few other spots, I'm brand new to both the net and this site. I don't know what is proper and what isn't as far as these (forums?) go. If it isn't out of bounds, I would like to point out from the standpoint of a semi-professional lecher that if your picture in the "picture" part of this site is anything resembling reality, then your only choice should be whether you want to associate with men of your intellectual level or men in general, anyone of whom would kill to be with you. (I'm not being superficial; in my few days of being here, I have come to the conclusion that you must be of a special mind.) This site is irregular in that normal life tends to put beauty and brains in opposite corners. Here, they go together. (Always have, in my view.) It is sad but true that most guys in your age group (I'm guessing high school or early university) who are bright enough to hold your interest might be timid. I went through that 35 years ago. The best thing that you can do is to pick whatever glasses work best for you, and portray yourself the way that you want to be perceived. Approach all guys as intellectual equals (even though most won't be). The ones that admire your mind as well as your body will stay; the jocks will dip their heads in shame and run, or pretend to their buddies that you're too stuck up for them. Their loss.

Hahahahaaaaaaa you're a specky four eyes! Ner ner ne nerr nerrr!

Hey, Nog;
Good bloody thing that I don't sleep much, or I might have missed your appearance. Since I wear tri-focals, does that make me six-eyes?

And before you say 8, the biological ones don't count.

Awesome! I love chicks with glasses :!)

Seems to me that most of the super-heroes wore glasses because people were too stupid to recognize them. Careful with this lady; she can probably squash you like a bug.

agh my eyesight is also slowly deteriorating, especially my right eye (left eye is okay). I am going to have to switch to a monacle or something (why wear glasses when only one eye is affected). Hm... it might also make people think I am rich or something, and might get a little more respect too .

Nah, wouldn't work anyway, id probably make me look snobbish. If I were to wear glasses it'd be the very light thin-framed, rectangular shape.

Still would prefer the monacle though...

Don't worry, you're so pretty no matter the glasses you wear. :blushing:

If one wore a monocle a lot, wouldn't s/he look like a surprised Spock when it's removed?

  • #15
YAY, I'm glad everyone else thinks its as cool as i do. I get them tomorrow hopefully, so maybe i'll take a pic this weekend so yall can see how awesome... (or not awesome) i look in them. Actually... i also just dyed my hair red... its only temporary, like 10 wash or whatever, and i just dyed it like 5 minutes ago, so I'm not sure what it looks like caue my hair is still wet. If my hair doesn't look too horrible, maybe i'll take a picture. If its bad, maybe i'll wait a few weeks for it to fade out, heh.

BTW, i heard someone say that wearing glasses makes your eyes worse... is that true? i hope not, cause i would prefer not to be blind when I'm older, just cause i thought i'd look hot in glasses...

You know you can buy glasses with blank lenses, right? With no prescription ground into them?

Ack, what's the fun in that! You might as well take a regular pair of glasses and punch out the lenses and just wear the frame!

Pff forget that. I would wear an eyepatch. Yarrrrhhhh!

  • #19
Yeah, that's way too superficial to wear fake glasses. I'm not that vain.

I like the eyepatch idea. Though, a monacle sounds fun to me. I've never seen anyone wearing one of those except the cartoon guy on the Monopoly box.

Congrats Gale, I just got my glasses last summer, and I love them. I had always wanted to wear them too, but my vision was so perfect and everyone knew it. Getting a fake pair seemed kind of silly, now that I need them, I wear them with pride. I also enjoy reading so much better since I don't have to sort through the words like I once did.

My sentiments exactly... By the way, about dying my hair... its not exactly red as i thought. Its this sort of reddish color... kinda umm... ORANGE! heh, i know, who would've guessed... So yes, i now have ORANGE hair for the next few weeks... fortunately, my hair is kinda dark... so its not horrible... heh, who am i kidding, its ORANGE! AUGH! hopefully my new glasses will draw attention away from the color of my hair though...
heh, i bet you guys wouldn't think I'm so pretty now... ORANGE... UGH...

Ew, hmm...do you own any nice hats? Maybe a cute hat will go well with the new glasses? Well, good thing you tried something that washes out (you can always start taking two or three showers a day to get rid of it faster). Or just pretend you chose that color on purpose.

I've used dishwashing liquid to help get bad color out faster. There's also a product called Metalex (by Clairol) you can get at the beauty supply that will help you get it out.

Don't forget Colonel Klink. Surely even kids like you must have seen the reruns.
I'm going to have to learn how to use this quote thing properly.
Gale17, wearing glasses cannot harm your eyes unless you're clumsy putting them on and poke your eye out with the stem. Wearing improper perscriptions, however, can have the same effect as sitting to close to the TV or trying to see without glasses when you need them. It causes uncomfortable strain in the focusing muscles and can affect vision temporarily while you readjust. My vision is worse for close to 15 minutes after removing my glasses than it is before putting them on in the first place. It goes away.

  • #26
Colonel Klink? Nope, never heard of him.

  • #27
Colonel Klink, come on Moonbear. HOGAN! right? I know he was on Hogan's Heros. Classic tv is needed, especially when watching the simpsons. I purposely watched happy days to understand some of the references to fonz in the simpsons. Aayyyyeeeee!

Come on Junior, it wasn't all that long ago. I think it was even in colour.
I forgot to mention Mr. Peanut, too.

Hogan's Heroes' Bob Crane and HPD

Moonbear said:

It's star Bob Crane was the subject of the recent art-house movie Autofocus. Here is a good article on Bob Crane, his role as Colonel Hogan, and the bizarre circumstances surrounding his 1978 murder:
http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/classics/bob_crane/1.html

Apparently, Bob Crane (in real life) suffered from Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD). Here is some information on HPD:
http://www.toad.net/~arcturus/dd/histrion.htm

--
Males with HPD usually present with identity diffusion, disturbed relationships, and lack of impulse control. They are often promiscuous and bisexual... These men are emotionally immature, dramatic, and shallow... In men with HPD, disinhibition may be expressed through impulsivity, aggressive behavior, drug abuse, interpersonal exploitation, and numerous shallow sexual relationships...

From that article, it sounds like the show pre-dated me by a few years, and pre-dated my TV watching by more than a few years.

I thought Hogan's Heroes was a cartoon staring Hulk Hogan (of WWF fame), which came out about the time I was getting too old to watch cartoons. That would explain why I didn't recognize the character.

Moonbear, oh love of my life, I am shattered! Consider a combination of 'The Great Escape' and the Three Stooges, written and directed by people of lesser talent than Mel Brooks. Believe it or not, Richard Dawson did have a career before 'Family Feud' (not during or after). He was the token Brit in the POW camp. And before Brewnog or other erstwhile Brits bring it up, 'The Great Escape' was based upon a true story about British POW's. Hollyweird has trouble with stuff like that.

PS: Who is ever too old to watch cartoons? The best opera that I ever heard or saw was 'The Bunny of Seville' starring, of course, Bugs. And the Flintstones was merely a celludoid version of the classic "Honeymooners" with Jackie Gleason.

Hey Gale..
Hope you look cool with your new glasses. Anyway, have you tried wearing contacts instead? :)

Okay, not too old for cartoons, but too old to get into newer cartoons. I prefer the old classics...the Road Runner and Wile E Coyote are my favorite Loony Toons.

You speak truly. They and Bugs/Daffy were the best ever. Never mind those politically correct bits of commercial-stuffing they put out now. (Except for the Pixar stuff, of course.) I believe that most of my inventive tendencies are directly channeling the fellow in charge of Acme Industries. Also, my car is a Roadrunner, so I have to maintain family loyalty.

Hey hey all! i got some pics of my new glasses which just came in. Let me know what you think...
