AI Thread Summary
Users are discussing the challenges of obtaining a picture of Marlon Brando as an avatar following a recent site upgrade. Only contributors can now have custom avatars, while non-contributors who had avatars before the upgrade may have lost them if they selected images from the site's options. It appears that only those with custom avatars prior to the upgrade retained them, leading to frustration among users who had chosen site-provided images. Several participants confirm their experiences of losing avatars after the upgrade, emphasizing the distinction between custom and site-selected images. The conversation highlights the need for clarity on avatar policies and contribution requirements.

You have to be a contributor now to get a picture (avatar). Only non-contributors that had avatars prior to the last upgrade still have them.

hey then i must be very lucky to still have mine then

The link to contribute is in my sig, if you're interested.

I had an avatar prior to the last upgrade. Then, after a few days, it disappeared...

Maybe you tried to edit it?

No, enigma, I think it has to do that it was a avatar that you picked from the site itself. I also had an avatar, but I picked it from the selected ones on the site. I think only the people who had custom avatars prior kept them.

Yep, that's what happened to me too (I wasn't a contributor yet). I think you're right about that. If you had a "borrowed" avatar from PF, those very quickly disappeared. Those who had custom avatars seem to have gotten to keep those, at least until they make the mistake of trying to change them.
