Schools Good Graduate Schools in Physics (Astrophysics, HighEnergy) in Rural Areas

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around finding a suitable PhD program in physics located in rural areas, due to the original poster's sensitivity to noise. The individual is graduating with an M.Sc. and has research interests in cosmology, astrophysics, high energy physics, and mathematical physics, particularly quantum field theory and string theory. Suggestions for schools include those in small-to-medium cities, as even institutions in rural settings are typically near urban centers. Specific locations mentioned include Urbana, Illinois, and Ames, Iowa, which, while rural, still offer strong academic programs in physics.

Hi all,

Due to medical reason, I have problem with noises, and I am graduating from M.Sc soon, I am looking for PhD program in US, Canada, Europe (Australia?)

Can you please suggest which good school which is situated at rather rural area, yet strong in physics.

My research interest is : Cosmology, Astrophysics (both theoretical / computational, observational) , High Energy Physics (both theoretical and experimental) , Mathematical physics (more on Quantum Field Theory , maybe String which I still know very little about)

Thanks! =D

Any school that's big enough to have a strong PhD program is going to be a small-to-medium city in its own right. Urbana, IL and Ames, IA are located in the middle of nowhere but you would only know that if you drove a couple miles out of town.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
